Welcome! This is The Review, my review on YA books that I have read. I try to Blog on every book I read after I read them and I read as fast as I can but it takes me a while to read a book if it's long. I use books to escape and I hope you can escape into books yourself because it's the best place to be for me, even though most of the books I read are quite dark. Just warning you. Leave comments!

Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Synopsis:
Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past, and he's not sure if it's love -- or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard, Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

Director: Rob Marshall

Jack Sparrow: Johnny Depp
Angelica Malon: Penelope Cruz
Barbossa: Geoffrey Rush
Blackbeard: Ian McShane

Review:
I love Pirates of the Caribbean and have since I first watched it when I was about eight. It may have terrified me but I loved Captin Jack Sparrow and he has yet to be beat in these movies as my favourite character. This film has no Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley because if you know the story, Will can only come on land every ten years.
This film follows the famous Jack Sparrow in his efforts to find the Fountain of Youth. He meets a woman he once dated, I thought he's met them all in the first film when he got slapped about five times. He is in a race to find it though since the man who took the Black Pearl from Jack in the first film has joined forces with the British King and they are on the hunt for the Fountain of Youth after the King hears that Spain are on their way to the fountain too.
I liked this film, not as much as At Worlds End but it was filled with sword fights and Jacks quirky lines. It was exciting and introduces more of the Pirate World than any of the other films. It introduces Mermaids and Blackbeard, the most famous pirate ever. Jack always seems to find his way out of the most difficult situations with a line or a weird mode of escape.
The characters are consistent with all of the other films. Jack is weird. Barbossa only goes after what he wants. Gibbs is loyal to Jack. And the new characters follow the typical Pirate stereotypes, untrusting and after gold. Angelica has her own motives and hates Jack after he said he loved her and left her on her own. She wants to go to the Fountain of Youth to save her father from death because she wants to know him.
A must see movie if you like the Pirates of The Caribbean. Even without Will and Elizabeth, it is still amazing. Plenty of sword fights and double crossing and Jacks famous compass.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Blurb:
How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

Review:
One word: WOW. Ohmigod, I adored this book. I mean full on fell in love with the book. I thought it would be your average Joe forbidden love, where they probably end up dying in the end, you know, Shakespeare wannabes. But no, this was filled with people wanting to kill each other and Gods and Zeus and places you go in your sleep but your actually there and its so confusing but in a really good way.
Okay, first you start off with Helen, thinking she's human and has a pretty normal life, she knows she's a bit different because she can run really fast but a lot of people can. Thats until she gets annoyed by a name and she doesn't even know why. And then she sees a very pretty boy but all she wants to do is kill him. In the middle of the school hallway. Which she tries to do. Without much luck. She doesn't understand why she wants to kill him because she has never seen him in her life. It turns out that it is because they are desendants of ancient Greek Gods, which I thought was pretty cool because I've never read a book about Gods and Goddesses. But one night they save each others life and suddenly the need to kill each other goes. Which is good because the thing that kept going through my mind was 'This book is going to end with them dying.' But then they loose the will to kill each other and seem to fall in love which was good because I loved the characters.
Helen is a shy girl who doesn't like causing trouble and hates attention. She wants to get off the island of Nantucket (which I never knew was an island, I'm rubbish at Geography) and go to college, which doesn't happen in most books. People just want to get away from their families and then they fall in love with Vampires and become Vampires and get into trouble with other Vampires or Werewolves. Then there is the character of Lucas, at first I didn't like him to start with and then he became sweet and loving and protective after they saved each others lives. You see that he cares about his family and that he wants to keep Helen out of harms way. He was so sweet.
The ending surprised me and I was like WOW i never saw that but there was another part that I knew was going to happen.
A new take on the Greek Gods and a new addition to my Series's to watch! It was amazing and I am recommending it to everyone

The Demon Trappers: Forsaken by Jana Oliver

Blurb:
Riley Blackthorne just needs a chance to prove herself – and that’s exactly what the demons are counting on…
Seventeen-year-old Riley, the only daughter of legendary Demon Trapper, Paul Blackthorne, has always dreamed of following in her father's footsteps.  The good news is, with human society seriously disrupted by economic upheaval and Lucifer increasing the number of demons in all major cities, Atlanta’s local Trappers’ Guild needs all the help they can get – even from a girl. When she’s not keeping up with her homework or trying to manage her growing crush on fellow apprentice, Simon, Riley’s out saving distressed citizens from foul-mouthed little devils – Grade One Hellspawn only, of course, per the strict rules of the Guild. Life’s about as normal as can be for the average demon-trapping teen.
But then a Grade Five Geo-Fiend crashes Riley’s routine assignment at a library, jeopardizing her life and her chosen livelihood.  And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, sudden tragedy strikes the Trappers’ Guild, spinning Riley down a more dangerous path than she ever could have imagined. As her whole world crashes down around her, who can Riley trust with her heart – and her life?

Review:
I loved, loved, loved this book. It was funny, it was sweet, it had people kicking demon ass, it had emotion and it had fit boys. I bought it because I judged it by its cover (which I know you shouldn't do, but I'm against social curves) and added it to my wishlist and then when I was cutting down my wishlist (because I'm not made of money which actually means 'My monthly allowance has to go toward other stuff too,') I read the blurb and knew that I had to buy this book and I'm glad I did.
The plot was amazing and kept me turning the page and losing sleep. Riley wants to be the best she can be so she can help pay the bills that her mothers medical bills built up while she was alive and she wants to make her father proud, but it never seems to go right for her, like when she gets a routine job and it turns out for the worse. And on top of that, her father dies that day so she's stuck in the care of her fathers trapping partner Beck, a twenty three year old that Riley hates. She has to protect her fathers grave from Necromancers, while paying the bills and balancing a relationship with the NCB (Nice Catholic Boy) Simon. But the best thing in the plot was that it was set in 2018, which I think was really cool. It was a totally believeable that in the next seven years that any metal could be precious.
The characters were amazing, none were alike. Riley is a strongwilled girl who doesn't take crap unless it puts her well being on the line. She wants to show that girls can do the same job as boys which I think, every girl needs to do and that even when things are hard, she'll make them better instead of wallowing in pity and grief. Beck was a good character because he had a duty to do and he did it. He knows that Riley only hates him because when she was younger she had a crush on him and he let her down but yet he looks after her and protects her when Rileys father dies. But I absolutley loved NCB (Nice Catholic Boy) Simon because he was amazingly devouted to his faith and he is so sweet.
This book is a must read in my opinion. Its filled with adrenaline, love, loyalty, a weird future and kicking demon ass. Because, I like it when people kick demon ass.

Movie Review: Corpse Bride

Synopsis:
Set back in the late 1800s in a Victorian village, a man and woman by the names of Victor Van Dort and Victoria Everglot are betrothed because the Everglots need the money or else they'll be living on the streets and the Van Dorts want to be hight in society. But when things go wrong at the wedding rehearsal, Victor goes into the woods to practice his vows. Just as soon as he gets them right, he finds himself married to Emily, the corpse bride. While Victoria waits on the other side, there's a rich newcomer that may take Victor's place. So two brides, one groom, who will Victor pick?

Directors: Tim Burton and Mike Johnson
Victor: Johnny Depp
Emily (Corpse Bride): Helena Bonham Carter
Victoria: Emily Watson
Bonejangles: Danny Elfman

Review:
Childhood favourite. I loved this film when I was younger and I still love it now. I love the character of Victor because he is just nervous about pleasing his wife to be and then he accidently promises to marry a dead woman. He is so adorably clumsy but he is also trustworthy, even if he may not want to keep the promise. And I love the hopeless romantacism of Emily because even after the love of her life killed her for her money, she still believes that her true love will find her. But my all time favourite character in the Tim Burton films is Bonejangles, the jazz singing skeleton, who I love.
Tim Burton has to be my favourite Director because he does such dark films but he tones it down in some instances, like for the kids films, like Corpse Bride but I still like it because it is romantic and a musical and about dead people. I like it.

HARRY FREAKIN' POTTER TRAILER FOR PART 2

THIS IS ALL MEANT TO BE IN CAPITALS BECAUSE IT IS THE END OF AN ERA. My best friend Ella screamed and made me watch it twice and griped my arm and hit me in excitement. It hurt.
But she is mental when it comes to Harry Potter. Like I am when it comes to Twilight and the Mortal Instruments. I was excited too because, come on, its Harry freakin' Potter! So here is the Trailer.

I love the bit with Ron holding Hermione and holding her hand, so does Ella but she screamed in my ear so I'm not hearing at the moment...

Disclaimer: I don't own this franchise or the trailer or the characters.

But I wish I was with Ron Weasley. He's a fellow Ginger!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

I am the biggest Twilight fan in my school, I know because I scream whenever someone mentions it, I won a Twilight quiz in my English class, an Edward Cullen bag was my prize! I took it too seriously.
But in form today we were aloud on the computers and me and my friend Ella found the Breaking Dawn Trailer so I thought I'd put it up on my Blog.

Disclaimer: I do not own this Video or the franchise it comes from.
I may have screamed when I saw this, even after the third time!

Unearhtly by Cynthia Hand

Blurb:
In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Review:
This book really apealed to me but in other ways it didn't. It was on and off my Amazon wishlist for the last three months. I bought it because it was one of the only ones that wasn't on Pre-Order.
At the start it was slow, it wasn't exciting but that was to begin with. I didn't know it was starting to pull me in, it was like it sneaked up on me and that was when Clara moved from California to Wyomming and she meets Christian. It holds you from that moment on. It holds you as she meets friends and Tucker and as she figures out her purpose.
The characters, some were too overactive for my taste, like Angela and I couldn't get to like her but some were more likeable, like Wendy and Tucker. They were nicer and more believeable as characters.
The only thing I put down on this book is that it had quite a slow start but it did grip you after the first three chapters or so.
